Vaillant ecotec F32 fault code

vaillant f32 fault code explained and how to fix

The Vaillant F32 fault code typically presents itself when the fan on the appliance has failed, or if the printed circuit board deems that this is the case.

Covid Update November

I am doing my best to keep people warm this Autumn/Winter, hence I am still working currently and will continue to do so beyond Thursday the 5th of November 2020. I am doing my best to follow government guidelines which includes the wearing of a face mask etc.

If you look in the Vaillant installation manual it states the following; “Fan fault – Plug at fan not correctly plugged in, multiple plug on PCB not correctly plugged in, break in cable harness, fan blocked, Hall sensor defective, electronics defective”

In my experience the fans on the ecoMAX models and first generation ecoTEC(2005-2012) boilers are extremely reliable and do not fail very often. The components on the top half of the first generation ecoTEC models(heat exchanger, fan, gas valve, expansion vessel) are usually bullet proof. However I have noticed that this is something that does fail occasionally on some of the second generation ecoTEC models(manufactured from 2012), I have repaired a few PRO models I believe. I haven’t changed many but they do fail.

As a homeowner all one can do is try the reset button, this is unlikely to make the appliance work if it is the fan that has failed. The fan on models boilers such as these is a non serviceable item and typically needs to be replaced by someone who is Gas Safe registered, competent and confident enough to work on these Vaillant boilers.

Although this usually means you will need a new fan, a competent engineer would need to check that there isn’t some other issue such as the printed circuit board or wiring for example. Also if the fan has failed it needs to be determined if there was some sort of catalyst for the failure ie the fan has been exposed to moisture or a leak from somewhere.

As an end user experiencing these faults, your only option is to call someone competent and Gas Safe registered to fix the problem. Replacing parts on boilers based on guesswork is almost always an expensive endeavour for someone, either the “engineer” or the customer so it is best to try to and find someone who understands this problem and has experience fixing it.
