This was a repair I did on a Vaillant ecotec pro which had stopped working altogether. The display was showing the dreaded, yet extremely common F.75 fault code. The early versions of the ecotec boilers were fitted with problematic pumps and early versions of the pressure sensors also suffered from issues.
These pumps were later upgraded to the more reliable Grundfos pumps which are still used in Vaillant boilers. The pressure sensors have been updated several times as well.
The pump and pressure sensor are two items I carry for service and repair on these models. On this particular boiler the F.75 fault was being caused by the pressure sensor which had failed. When the pump was running it failed to detect a rise in pressure hence the boiler thought the pump wasn’t running and chose not to fire up.
The pump on this boiler was still working ok but getting a bit tired so I made the recommendation to just replace the sensor. The customer had the option to replace both but I thought there was still a but of life left in the pump.
Vaillant ecotec Plus 824 with WILO pump & original faulty pressure sensor
This boiler I repaired can be seen with the ordinal WILO pump and original pressure sensor. In still come across many of these ecotec Pro and Plus models with these early pumps and a lot of them are still working really well.
When I service or repair one of these models I always recommend replacing the pump if I don’t think it will last the next 12 months, but I always give the customer the option and let them decide.
Vaillant ecotec Plus 824 original faulty pressure sensor
Early pressure sensors look like the one in the image above. These were prone to failure and also like to leak as well, which I find to be very common. Whenever I come across a boiler with one of these that is still working, I usually recommend upgrading the sensor but always give the option to the customer and let them decide.
